Pineapple
I Love, Love, Love Pineapple! Pineapples are 5 x more effective that cough medicine!
This fruit has serious attitude, spiky on the outside, sweet on the inside and to top it off it wears a crown!
Ever eaten too much pineapple and had a sore tongue? Bromelain breaks down proteins in meat & flesh – tenderising meat, including our mouths, and whilst it is great for cleaning the tongue and other soft tissues of the mouth, too much can leave your mouth feeling a bit raw.
My daughters (and my dental nurses) will tell you that my advice for a cough, a sore throat or to freshen and keep tongue clean is Pineapple, daily Probiotics are a constant (it is all about the gut health always!) and Coconut Oil for almost every ailment (see Coconut Oil info) added with a bit of Vicks Vapour rub for good measure (ball of feet for chesty coughs, foreheads for headaches and on cotton wool for earache) and they have some daily supplements that I helicopter parent over, & that is basically my Medicine Cabinet!
The pineapple is a tropical plant with an edible fruit. I was lucky, when on a Dentaid charity trip to Uganda in 2016 our Ugandan driver Stevie took us to his pineapple plantation, we were given a tour and served straight from the plant! (Baby pineapples are ridiculously cute!).
Little fact about pineapple:
Did you know that there is a group of enzymes in pineapple called Bromelain? Bromelain breaks down proteins dissolving mucous in the lungs, it has anti-inflammatory purposes and fights respiratory problems!
